D-Link DSL G624T: my personal review

Some time ago I bought this Dlink DSL G624T wifi router modem.
Well.. after configuring everithing on the router I was quite satisfied by this product: good wireless range and bandwidth, stable connections. I was happy.
I then decided to configure the router for Emule using the port forwarding feature in order to get an high Emule id.
After three or four minutes the first freeze of the router occurred. If the modem is used with P2P programs it hangs and it is no more possible to browse the web or download. Only removing the AC plug it's possible to get control on the router again. However after some minutes more the hangs occurs again.
Searching the web I finally discovered that this is a known problem with this Dlink model with the firmware used in Italy (USA firmware or other should work). By upgrade the firmware it is possible to fix this issues.
However my idea is that this is a really huge bug which should be repaired directly by Dlink.
This problem is known by more than one year and Dlink is still selling bugged version of this product.
In my opinion Dlink, soon after discovering this bug should call the bugged products back to fix them.
I think that is not a professional approach for Dlink.
Two days after buying this product I sent back to the seller and got my money back.
UPDATE 2007-03-15: After some further research it seems that this router also has different security vulnerabilities.
UPDATE 2009-04-18: During the past few days I worked again on this router for a client who were experiencing disconnections and router hangs. The old problems.
So.. I got the last firmware available called DLinkEU-A_DSL-G624T_V3.10B01T02.EU-A.20070924 which you should find from D-Link. This is the firmware only for the A1 hardware revision of the router. Newer revisions should use different firmware. The hardware revision is written below the router. Look for H/W Ver:.
Well, with this firmware things are really better.
The reliability problems have been solved. I used the router for 2 days with bittorent and local browsing and I never experienced any disconnection or hangup.
Moreover this new firmware radically changes the web administration giving it a new interface which is really cleaner and easier to use (but it still could be better).
So, finally seems that D-Link has been able to fix the problems with this router. Now this has become definitely a very good router.
Anyway my opinion is that is still unacceptable to sell a product with such problems and leave the users without a fix for more than one year.
I just hope that D-Link will not make this mistake again.
