Greetings from Portugal
I just got back home from a 3 weeks holidays in Portugal.. I've been there with my girlfriend Arianna and we traveled by car along most of the country costs, looking for waves to surf but also for nice historical places. We really had a wonderful time there, Portugal is really a great place and we definitely wanna come back there soon!
Here is a selection of pictures from the trip, hope you like it.
This is our Quechua tent.. it has been our home for the whole trip. Kudos to the Decathlon guys, the tent is really superb!
Praya da Arrifana, near Carrapateira.. wonderful surfing spot.. check out the number of surfers in the water!
Praya da Bordeira.. I had here one of the greatest surfing wave but also one of the most scaring sessions: in the morning there was a very strong current pushing me out into the ocean and I really had a scaring hard time swimming back to the beach. Uff!
This is the Capela dos Ossos in Evora, a chapel whose interior walls are entirely covered by skulls and bones. This is supposed to have people remember the brevity of terrain life. Pretty scaring the inscription in the entrance: Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos: "We, the bones that are here, await yours."
This is a forest of cork trees. Note how the bark layer of the trees has been removed. Very beautiful.
Weird street signals somewhere near Setúbal.
Cabo Espichel. Wonderful.
Cabo Espichel. Pretty nice waves there... but nobody surfing.
Me and Arianna in Praya das Bicas, near Sesimbra.
Praya das Bicas, near Sesimbra. This was pretty much a killer shore-break.. you can't tell by the picture but sometime it was bigger than 2 meters! Scary!
Praça do Comércio, Lisbon.
Typical Lisbon sweets. Very tasty!
Palácio de São Bento (São Bento Palace), Portugal parliament.
Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, in Belém, Lisbon.
25 de Abril Bridge in Lisbon. Made by the same company which made the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Yeah, they are very similar.
Sintra viewed from the Castel of the Moors.
Walls of the Castel of the Moors.
Ocean view from Cabo da Roca.
Me and Arianna in Cabo da Roca, the westernmost extent of mainland Portugal and continental Europe.
"Aqui, onde a terra se acaba e o mar começa..." (Here, where the land ends and the sea begins...)
Praya Grande, Sintra. More than 2 meters of waves. 3 days before the body-board world championship. Had good surfing here.
Myself, just got out from the water.
Praya da Foz de Lizandro. Very nice beach with good surfing conditions.
Sometime we just slept in the car!
Sunset in Supertubos beach, Peniche.
Almagreira beach, next to Ferrel and Peniche. Nice but small waves in a cloudy day.
This was the best dinner we had. Rice and octopus in Restaurante La Sardinha, Peniche.
At one point, both me and Arianna had to spend some time studying. I was preparing myself for delivering a paper in FNG2012. The public library in Peniche offered us a quiet environment with free Internet.
Almagreira beach, too windy for surfing.

This is a 1930 compass exposed in the Peniche Fortaleza Museum. Very beautiful.
Waves tubing in Supertubos, Peniche. About 1.5 to 2 meters.
The train station in Porto is a nice old building with very nice azulejos.
